Phil McCorry

For Phil rowing has been very much a family activity. Living by the sea he and his brother were first introduced into the sport at the tender age of 7 or 8 years old by their father who was a keen local rower. Phil spent the first 5 years as a coxswain before trying his hand at rowing, since then he hasn't looked back and has now been rowing for almost 10 years.
For those that know him Phil is quite a competitive person and the desire to achieve more success in the sport is still burning inside him. He has enjoyed numerous successes over the years, both for his home club of Bexhill and representing Hertfordshire RC at the university championships. The highlight being an unbeaten season in 2006 where his crew were crowned Junior Senior South Coast Champions, a year he will never forget!
With winning comes losing and as a competitive rower Phil has tasted both. But win or lose the joy and excitement of racing and training has never gone away. He believes he is very lucky to be able to participate in such a physically enduring sport and also to teach rowing to the new members of the club, to try and enthuse them with the passion to go on to bigger and better things that he can only dream of.
Speaking of dreams and challenges there is not anything more exciting and harder than attempting to row across the Indian Ocean. Phil has always dreamed of doing something different so here we are... at the beginning of what will be a life changing experience.
