24Hour Row

On Friday the 16th of May at 4:30pm we took the first stroke of our 24 hour row. Unfortunately we were missing Ian for the event but thanks to the help of a few Bexhill rowers we were able to fill his shoes and because of our prime location (between two pubs) no one really noticed that that 4th person kept changing!

When accompanied by our stand-ins we were rowing 2 hours on 2 hours off in pairs unfortunately around 11pm beer and bed became to inviting for them so we were forced to row 2 hours on 1 hour off, which was hard going during a cold wet night!

Fortunately next morning our Ian' turned up once more, sadly they brought with them the rain! But now well in to the second half we pushed on trying to reach our target of 300,000 meters. Later that day with only a couple of hours to go the sun finally showed its face, by this point we were down to shorter stints rowing mostly 30-40 min at a time and in the last hour down to 15 min each.

We finally hit the 300,000 meter mark with a whole quarter of an hour left which left the three of us enough time to empty the tank over 5 min each and finally bring the clock to a stop at 308,000 meters (around 195 miles)

Over the 24 hours we raised just over £700, successfully launched our campaign to the public, made a few new friends and gained a total of 6 new blister (and not were you expect to find blisters!) But the whole fundraiser wouldn't have been such a success with out the help, support and generosity of every one involved, so below is a list of the people we would especially like to thank for their contributions.

The Devonshire Arms
Walkers Wine Bar
Bexhill Police
All the staff at Bexhill Post Office
Everyone who donated some money, or took a leaflet.
All our friends and family for your support.

And last but definitely not least our stand-in Ian'....

Pete Hooper
Keiran Cahill
Ash Cahill
Joe Pellet
